Continuing to make new images/blocks. Time consuming this week as I attempted to make more complex, layered images. Challenge to do this and make all 6 sides relevant. 'Suprise' e.g. time, written entry, adds interest, depth, meaning?

Reading Donald Kuspit, "The End of Art," and am pondering how to better access my unconscious (with structure in exterior reality) as he posits this is art's purpose. Demands of schedule and academic requirements inhibit openness, curiosity. Must overcome this.

Heard Ann Hamilton interview ("On Being") and inspired better practice of thinking, observation/reflection, research (or discovery). Hamilton also suggested "everything is there for thinking, questioning."

Also reading "Bend Sinister" by Vladamir Nabokov.

(Continuing to work on postcard. Wrote text for peer's artwork.)

Letter with each block. Visitor selects block and docent gives him/her the letter belonging to that block. He/she goes into private space to read it, has materials to write artist a letter, or make a drawing.

Creating body of 3-dimensional works on 4x6" blocks of various thickness (these are on 1/4"), drawn/painted on all sides. Working to overcome tendency to make an image on each side but seemed compelled, at least today in this direction. Can't get death of 18-y-o child, whose mother I know, out of my mind. Some thoughts of nephew in Afghanistan and always am in a struggle though the character of this I am not yet ready to say or perhaps need not say human to human you to me. I suppose we will see or maybe not and that is certainly a fear.

Reading Donald Kuspit and thinking about his argument for art that offers medium for reflection, and nothing more or less, that is an expression of the depth of human experience (I think).
